The lack of a Hellenic Bibliography on the History of Medicine was up to now an obstacle to students and writers to know what has been written in the Greek language on their subject of interest. This lack is now covered by the publication of the Hellenic Bibliography on the History of Medicine in 2009, and this being the first attempt to cover this very important gap.

In a well printed volume of 815 pages of this Bibliography is the author's creation from 1750, which was the year when a relative text on the History of Medicine was recorded for the first time, up to 2000. This volume contains in total 7156 titles of articles.

The titles of the articles are entered in an alphabetical order of their writers, and furthermore articles which have been published in others languages by Greek writers. An important factor of this Bibliography is the fact that three hundred and more journals, medical, historical, literary, volumes of Proceedings etc. have been indexed, which comprise the 80% of the articles of this Bibliography, and which were mainly unknown to the writers of today.

With this Bibliography the annual Hellenic writing on the History of Medicine is now ascertained, and a portrait of doctors is created, for who relative articles have been written. In the introduction there is a diagram in which, is presented the progressive increase of articles by decade. A large increase during the last decades of 20th century, is clearly seen, an encouraging fact for the progress of studies on the History of Medicine in our country, Greece, mother of scientific medicine.

The detailed index of main names and relative subjects, which are contained in the titles of the articles helps the use of this Hellenic Bibliography on the History of Medicine.

We note that the author of this Bibliography, pediatrician Demetrios Karaberopoulos, is Doctor of the History of Medicine of Athens' University and writer of many original historical articles on the ancient physicians, Hippocrates and Galen, and also on the Medicine of Meta-Byzantine period and Neo-Hellenic Enlightenment.
